Discover Scuba itinerary
Shark dives usually last around two hours. This is what you can expect:
- Arrival, greeting, safety briefing and training. You are fitted for Scuba equipment and a dry suit. Along with you on the course and the dive will be up to 2 other shark divers and your dive instructors.
- In water instruction is given within our training pool. You then take your first step into shark-infested waters.
- Face to face with the sharks. A ten foot sand tiger shark passes close by. You’re thrilled, amazed and fascinated!
- Exit, change and shower. Once out of the water you collect your certificate. Having experienced something truly amazing, the feeling of euphoria is overwhelming. You will want to do it all over again!
Equipment
Dives at Deep Sea World are completed using a dry suit. Our dry suits are made from hard wearing cordura material and although built to keep you dry are not built to keep you warm! Please bring warm clothes with you on the day of your dive to wear under your dry suit. Tracksuit bottoms, long sleeved t-shirts and warm socks will suffice.
SCUBA or self contained underwater breathing apparatus consists of a diving cylinder containing over 2000 litres of air, a diving regulator that allows you to breathe the air underwater and a buoyancy control device that works almost like a life jacket and allows the diver to ascend and descend in the water.
Divers do not have to wear fins as swimming is not permitted in the tank, instead divers will walk along the bottom of the shark tank. To make this easier each diver will wear a weight harness weighing almost 40lbs! Don’t worry though, as diver’s will feel completely weightless underwater!
The Perfect Gift
If you haven’t quite plucked up the courage to do it yourself, then why not treat someone else to a shark dive? Whether it’s a fearless friend, or a daredevil partner, a shark dive makes a fantastic present. And, just to make sure they go ahead with it, you can watch the whole thing from our viewing tunnel as two spectators are admitted free of charge. Further entrance tickets can also be purchased in advance.
